“History is not about the facts. It is about the context and who is telling the story.” —Prof. Milton Fine.

"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past."   –– George Orwell in his novel "1984."

"Whoever doubts the exclusive guilt of Germany for the Second World War destroys the foundation of post–war politics." ––  Prof. Theodor Eschenberg, Rector, the University of Tübingen.

"After the end of an inglorious era, there is always a certain tendency to eradicate and forget, to remove evidence and documents from this period from historical use. This is especially true for those interested in film history when attempting to present the history of German film during the Third Reich." –– from a PhD candidate's dissertation, 1954, Munich.

The story of the political conflict in 1910 between Dr. Karl Lüger, Mayor of Vienna, and Ritter von Schönerer. Lüger is nearly blind and dying, but he summons his last energies in order to combat Kommerzialrat Lechner who, backed by Vienna Jewry, has been endangering the City Loans by his speculative manoeuvres. Lüger thwarts him and saves Vienna, but knows it is the end for him. He summons Ritter von Schönerer, his political opponent, to him, and asks him to take over and to try to save what still can be saved for Vienna and Austria. He then attends the yearly Ball at the Town Hall, collapses and dies. Excellent production, with very fine acting.

The synopsis above was written by a British military staff member who compiled the report on Nazi propaganda films which was eventually used to destroy all existing film prints of each such film except for three copies set aside for the Allied victors in London, Paris and Washington, D.C. Their list was published in 1951 as "Catalogue of Forbidden German Feature and Short Film Productions held in the Zonal Film Archives of Film Section, Information Services Division, Control Commission for Germany, (BE)."
