Riefenstahl OLYMPIA original film lobby card + propaganda booklet

Leni Riefenstahl's  OLYMPIA  original

1938 lobby cardshowing the three

medal winners for the five-event pentathlon.

Olympia-620.jpg

 Tobis-back-620.jpg

This is an original lobby card from the film, with the Tobis Filmkunst logo, the Olympia Film GmbH logo, the OLYMPIA II. Teil (Fest der Schönheit) title all on the front of the photo, and the Tobis rubber-stamp on the verso. Other OLYMPIA stills occasionally on eBay do not have the actual film's title wording nor 'Olympia Film GmbH' nor 'Tobis Filmkunst' logos on them. Accept no substitutes! This lobby card has them all -- perfect for framing or pride-of-place in your Collection.

The image is very iconic, showing the three medal winners of the Pentathlon standing side-by-side on the podium:

  • Hendrick (Nazi Germany)

  • Leonard (USA)
  • Abba (Fascist Italy)

It is the standard pre-1945 German lobby card measuring ca. 23 cm x 29 cm / approx. 9 x 12 inches, with the full white border around all four sides (slightly cropped in the A4 scan, which is a smaller dimension that the actual photograph. The white border surrounds all four sides of the glossy photograph). The photo is in mint condition. No tears, pin-holes, smudges. High gloss finish on the double-weight thick photographic paper as issued by the film studio. This is an original film still, not a reproduction. Tobis Filmkunst was a Third Reich film studio which existed only until the end of WWII. Any Olympia press photos or lobby cards which do not display the Tobis Filmkunst logo on the front of the photo, or the Tobis rubber-stamping on the verso of the photo (or both, as this photograph does) is a post-war re-release photo, or a reprint.

***BONUS!***  Included in this price -- the very rare OLYMPIA film booklet published by the Goebbels Propaganda Ministry!

The Third Reich only issued propaganda guides to one dozen films;  both documentary and feature films. These guides were promoted through the NSDAP and the Reich Propaganda Offices. The films ranged from the Western Front documentary SIEG IM WESTEN  to the German East Africa colonies film DEUTSCHES LAND IN AFRIKA, two Karl Ritter war feature films, UNTERNEHMEN MICHAEL and VERRÄTER and also included Riefenstahl's OLYMPIA. The brochures were published in the series called "Staatspolitische Filme"  - or "state political/national politically important films."  These guides should not be confused with the mass-produced cheap 4 and 8 page programs for cinema-goers,  the 'Illustrierter Film-Kurier' and 'Das Programm von Heute" type advertising.  The notorious Reichspropagandaleitung der NSDAP, Amt Film is credited for this publication on the front cover. The Minister overseeing this effort was Dr. Joseph Goebbels.

This 64 page cardstock brochure tells the story about the Riefenstahl film, including some photographs (the frontespiece photograph which is not illustrated here is of Hitler and his Minister for Sport in the viewing stands of the Games), and a list of all events and sport covered in the film. There is a map of the Olympic stadium, and the music sheet lyrics of the Olympia Hymn by composer Richard Strauss.

The brochure shows some signs of age with a few spots, but there is no writing on the inside pages. This is a rare publication.

The purchase price includes worldwide registered Airmail and insurance. The shipping cardboard sturdy Express Post envelope will be insured for the full purchase price as calculated in Australian Dollars. This protects you as the buyer and me as the seller if the item is lost in transit.
