Der Film in der Hitlerjugend

Der Film in der Hitler-Jugend

by Curt Belling,  Wilhelm Limpert

Verlag, Berlin,  1937

We offer one of the rarest film books published in the Third Reich, and certainly one of the rarest Hitler Youth books, as well.

Curt Belling was a Senior Official in the NSDAP Propaganda Leadership Office, Film Department and a key manager of the establishment and integration of the HJ Film Hours and all ancillary programs to bring motion pictures to classrooms and to cinemas for young audiences in Nazi Germany. He also authored two other books, including Der Film in Staat und Partei (1936) and co–authored the notorious anti-Weimar and anti-semitic Film-Kunst, Film-Kohn, Film-Korruption, ein Streifzüg durch vier Filmjahrzehnte. (1937).

This is an 88 page paperback book, bound by staples, with a cardstock cover.  It is only the second one we have seen for sale in thirty years of collecting, and our own Library has the other copy.

It is no wonder that this unique primary source was quoted extensively in our new book on the Hitler Youth Quex  film.

The book has browned paper as typical for a book printed over 85 years ago, some small tears, binding loose but still intact.

This rare copy was found in the UK and was once a book in the Board of Education Library, and has a date stamp of 2 July 1937 on the copyright page as having been received by the Library as a new entry. The Board of Education sticker is still on the rear cover. As the book is © 1936,  this copy was purchased and posted to the UK sometime that year as a new title. It reflects the interest and importance of studying the Hitler Youth by the British authorities at the time.
